I have a Onex tail kit on order. Estimated ship date is Oct 17 - 23. I am Air Force retired and recently retired again as a medical equipment field engineer. Presently share a 1953 Piper Tripacer located at KRYN. I will be attending the builders course in Oct. Looking forward to meeting fellow builders and hopefully taking a seat in the Onex. At 6' 6" tall it was a leap of faith ordering the tail kit. That and a good report from a friend who is almost as tall me who got to sit in the Onex at Airventure.

Dan, the taller guys seem to be quite happy with the Onex cockpit. 6'6" may be close, but you can move the canopy up a bit and gain some additional room that way if needed. Also, an in-ear headset will buy you a half inch or so of head clearance over traditional sets. If you are over 240lb you might need the extended wingtips if you want to stay LSA compliant on stall speed. Did you fly in the Air Force? If so, what did you fly? Either way, thanks for your service! :)

HI Andy. I'm thinking if I can fit in the Tripacer I should be able to squeeze myself into the Onex. I am a bit concerned because there is nothing I can fit into for transition training. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I was enlisted in the Air Force so no flying for me. I was a parachute rigger for the first 5 years then retrained into Autotrack Radar. Spent the remaining 15 years in that field mostly working on electronic warfare ranges in the Philippines, Korea, and Nevada. I'm very grateful to have been able to have a career in the Air Force.

It would be great to be able to stick to the shorter wings but I think I will have to go with the extended wingtips. I'm at 222 now, well maybe 225, but as I get older I may gain a few pounds so I better prepare for that. I bought a 40 x 40 hangar at our local airport so for now I am not worried about trying to fit the Onex into a garage.
