Waiex kit #0056 progress as of five weeks ago:

I've been working on the kit since 10/2009. AeroVee kit #0361 is ready to be installed as soon as I get the battery box, coils, RDAC, and a few other things bolted on the firewall. Hopefully in the next week or so I'll have some new pictures of the engine installed.

I'm hoping to move to the airport in late summer or early fall, perhaps with the first flight by the end of the year.

Hello All,

Hello Everyone,

Just felt like giving a status update...

I haven't been very good on steady progress on Waiex #0056, but over the past few months I've got a few things done.

First, I finished building the Aerovee and bolted it onto the engine mount:

I spent some time getting the exhaust on and throttle/mixture cables ran, and then finished fitting and prepping the wheel pants:

I've also made the cowling/prop spacer tool so I hope to make some progress on the cowling next week. I was told by my local airport that I have a tee hangar starting next month so I need to get cranking on this thing!

Looks great Mike. I'm interested in your impression of the Aerovee build. Congratulations on getting the hangar.

I like the panel. Does that MGL not have a slip/skid ball... :?:

Dan- I actually have a post in the Aerovee section named something like "Aerovee #361 build" or something similar. As I think you'll see, I'm reserving judgement until the engine is running but overall the build isn't bad, but there can be some "catches" during the build.

Kip- that's a wonderful question. As terrible as it is to say, I'm not sure if the Stratomaster has a ball or not. I'll have to look into that...

Thanks guys!

The MGL appears to have the slip ball if you get the attitude sensor. Look at this image

Under functions it is also listed:

Slip indicator (requires SP-7)

Just as another quick update, I was able to start on the cowling Monday. I'm currently on the road but I'm hoping to work and maybe get the cowling finished in a week or two.

The cowling will be interesting. Fit each side alone and then fit them together. If anyone else is reaching this stage be very careful how much cowling you trim away. I believe in the plans it says to expect to trim away one inch of material...so far I have not trimmed off much at all. Also, hand sanding with a sanding block and course sandpaper will go a long way...
