Your build log and blog, along with Bryan Cotton's, have provided great guidance and helped me dodge numerous "gotcha's" (not that I haven't made any dumb mistakes on my own LOL).

I had some wild oil pressure readings on my 6th flight (about 3 hours since first flight.) Post-flight I believe I tracked the problem down to the failure of a rubber grommet at the pass-through of my oil pressure sensor wire through the engine baffling... the wire was chafing against the hole in the aluminum baffle enough to expose a small amount of bare conductor.

It kills me people put videos on Youtube that provide evidence to the FAA they are violating Regs.

Posting that video with an Instructor and parachutes would promote Aviation Safety instead of...

At least wearing a parachute Solo would make it legal.

As for the 3sm visibility requirement for aerobatics, I could easily see the horizon through the whisps I was flying past (they were not clouds, I stayed well away from those.) If anything, they lowered the 50+ miles of visibility I had down to maybe 10 miles.

I have done aerobatic training with an instructor (wearing parachutes) previously.

Of all the years I have been involved with Test flying and hanging around Aerobatic pilots, the discussion was always that a Parachute was required. I have read that Reg a dozen times and always missed the subtlety.

I have a small single seat Biplane that has a Ballistic Parachute. I have always avoided even doing simple rolls because I hate wearing my parachute and its usually out of time (packing). I always thought it was silly I had to wear one when the airplane had its own. I may re-think this.

Its great we are always learning. BTW, congrats on your new ride!

No problem, I actually appreciate the call-out as I was sure beforehand that it was fine but had to doublecheck after your comment why I believed no parachute was required for my particular operation.

While on the subject, here are a few more of the regulations for aerobatic flight:

§ 91.303 Aerobatic flight.
No person may operate an aircraft in aerobatic flight -

(a) Over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement;

(b) Over an open air assembly of persons;

(c) Within the lateral boundaries of the surface areas of Class B, Class C, Class D, or Class E airspace designated for an airport;

(d) Within 4 nautical miles of the center line of any Federal airway;

(e) Below an altitude of 1,500 feet above the surface; or

(f) When flight visibility is less than 3 statute miles.

For the purposes of this section, aerobatic flight means an intentional maneuver involving an abrupt change in an aircraft's attitude, an abnormal attitude, or abnormal acceleration, not necessary for normal flight.
