Many of you probably got the Sonex email:
https://www.sonexaircraft.com/fes-acris ... insurance/

Acrisure is the insurance company we use and Victoria was the agent recommended by people on this forum.

Re: Complete Electrical Failure In-Flight

mike.smith wrote:I have an inline fuse between the positive battery terminal and the voltage regulator (to protect from over voltage),

The EarthX battery has internal circuitry for this function. It works - I had a VR fail high, and at night. Soon after I found happiness in owning a John Deere VR.

Re: Complete Electrical Failure In-Flight

Well done Rodger. I'd eliminate the 20A fuse. The pilot is the protection from the contactor to the breakers inside. If there is smoke or something bad happening you turn off the master.

Re: Complete Electrical Failure In-Flight

The master switch usually just provides a ground to the coil on the contactor. That is never fused. It should see about an amp of current. The hot connection from battery positive and the contactor is not protected, but is very short with a small possibility of failure. Note this connection covers b...

Re: The VeeCU

Wes,
What if you tapped the baffle for a cooling tube and gave the VCU a supply of fresh air?

That's a great question. Would explain the total failure.

Not totally related but here is a pitch for my mechanical master switch which saves an amp.

Re: Complete Electrical Failure In-Flight

I'll second the question about the ammeter wiring. Would be helpful to understand the high current. I'd disconnect the battery and see if it recharges and is happy. I'd disconnect the VR, run at 3000 RPM, and measure AC voltage. Should be about 26V at 3000 rpm IIRC. The AeroVee alternator is only ra...
