Dynamic balancing

Postby Brett » Sat Jan 27, 2018 9:17 pm

Has anyone gone to the trouble to have their props dynamically balanced on an Aerovee ?
If so,
Did it make much difference ?

I’m thinking about buying either the standard Dynavibe or the PB-4 .

Thanks :)

Hi Brett, I have had the prop on my 3300 dynamically balanced and it worked well, but how much of a difference it makes depends on how good it is in the first place. The last time I had it done was after I had sanded back and repainted my prop, and my static balance was good enough that we didn't have to change any weights. Brian Rebbechi's article on dynamic balancing: http://sonexaus.wikispaces.com/file/view/Propeller%20Balancing%20-%20Airsport%20Winter%202016.pdf/609193595/Propeller%20Balancing%20-%20Airsport%20Winter%202016.pdf includes results from a couple of Aerovees. In the sample results that Brian quotes, my Sonex is the first one. The other Sonex and Waiex (actually they were both Waiexes) were both Aerovee powered.

Thanks Peter,

Just out of curiosity have you had any experience with either of those two balancers I mentioned?

Hi Brett,
No experience with either. They both look pretty professional. If you are talking about spending that sort of money I'll have a chat to Brian and ask his advice.

You'll probably need to install ferry tanks to get here...........but the Florida Sonex Association has a dynamic balancer available to it's members.

If you can't justify the 500 gallons of fuel to get here.............you might give Mike a shout at the association and ask his opinion about the balancers.
