Carb heat installation

As carb heat is required by the LAA in the UK I am currently trying to figure out how to fit it without either moving the carb or modifying the cowl. The space between the bottom of the Aerocarb and the bottom of the cowl is just large enough to fit the AeroConversions air filter assembly but not really large enough for any standard hose to fit in there.

Has anyone fitted carb heat to an AeroVee with the carb in the standard configuration and if so do you have any pictures and details of the installation especially where you connected the carb intake up and avoided contact with the cowl?

The Sonex comes equipped with a large carb heat box around the carb....it's called a "cowl". All the heat from the engine and exhaust pipes flows over and into the carb. And, you can't shut it off.

However, that probably won't satisfy your "authorities".

Thanks I am well aware that carb heat is probably pointless on the AeroCarb and that adding it is more likely to be detrimental to safety. As I'm sure you can imagine I am not very happy about having to do this.

Hi Craig,

I have a Jab2200 with aero-injector. I installed a heat airbox with a K&N filter on the side, a heat muff on the exhaust, and plumbed it to the aero-injector.
Not required, but I have the option of using if I think I need to, also if I wanted and I could go back to a bing without too much drama.
I have a NACA duct supplying outside air to the filter area.
A similar airbox arrangement could be made for an aerovee, not necessarily mounted on the firewall, but maybe on the engine mount.
An elbow/cobra head could be made to fit the aero-injector to accept air from the heatbox. I moulded one out of a plastic irrigation fitting.
I have a couple of pics here on my Jab installation, might give you some ideas?
