Sonex Builders BBQ at Oshkosh 2024

Postby Sonex1517 » Sun Jun 16, 2024 10:52 pm

As we have done in years past, there will be a picnic at Wayne Daniel’s home on Wednesday evening, July 24th at 6 pm. This is up to us to make it succeed. (This is pronounced “Robbie is not in charge”)

THIS YEAR SOMEONE ELSE BESIDES WAYNE HAS TO COOK!

We need drivers, cooks, someone to collect the money, and people to help clean up. All funds still go to the Sonex Builders and Pilots Foundation in the hopes we can save our type club. (No one profits from this event or from the foundation)

We are lucky to have Wayne Daniels as a host for this event, and are planning this as a member-driven BBQ. There is no transportation provided so members need to self organize their way to and from Wayne's.

Wayne's address is:
3778 Red Oak Ct
Oshkosh WI 54902

The party will be an informal BYOB (Bring your own beverage - if you drive please DO NOT plan on drinking alcohol!) burgers and brats affair at Wayne's 7th Heaven over on the east side of Wittman Field.

The night airshow is a highlight of the week, and we can enjoy it from the perspective of Wayne's backyard. Our plan is to keep costs to a minimum, hopefully around $10 a head.

In order to plan for this event you MUST sign up!

Thanks Michael

Friends, for those who have attended, I want you to think about how special this event is. If we did this on site at AirVenture, on show grounds, it would be significantly more expensive.

I ask you all to help out - especially as a cook. Yes, we need you at Wayne's early to help BBQ. But it is a very special event and we are truly lucky that Wayne and Kathy host us every year. I really want us to do the heavy lifting this time.

If you can drive, even better - I hope to be flying my Sonex up from our new home in Texas. This means I will also be relying on my friends to get to and from the event.

For those that have never attended, let me tell you that being on the east side of the airport during the night airshow means you get a very up-close and personal experience with the aircraft. Bring your cameras! (And maybe some bug repellent - mosquitoes are, after all, the Wisconsin state bird)

Thank you once again, Wayne and Kathy!!!

Just bumping this back up again.

If you have never been to the BBQ, this is a really fun event and a great way to meet Sonex builders.

Also a very unique perspective. Many of the aircraft are turning and resetting for their passes right overhead. Nobody has wished they had gone elsewhere!
