Painting Complete

Getting it home was very nerve wracking driving down the highway with the freshly painted plane. It made it without any damage though. To tow it to the paint shop and back I made a custom "carriage" that bolted to my little 5x8 utility trailer. If anyone is in the Northeast that needs to move a taildragger sonex / waiex you are more then welcome to borrow the trailer or the carriage. I sure got a lot of strange looks from people passing me on the highway.

And here is the finished product. It cost a small fortune, probably added some weight to the plane, but I think it was worth it.

Thanks for the compliments. I really considered going the polished route but unfortunately my bird will be tied up outside on the ramp. The cost of hangers are so expensive around here that I could afford to re-paint the airplane every year with what I would be paying for a simple t-hanger.

Where are you based Keith? Do you know anyone on the field that owns a Cessna 150 or 172, or Piper Tri Pacer or similar? I haven't personally done it but I know some that can fit a Sonex into a hangar with a high wing single. If hangars are that much, you may be able to make a new best friend if you can cut the cost of hangar in half by sharing! Just a thought...
