My RC-1980 met its demise. Safety your filter!

So I'm playing with another option, a K&N RD-0720 and a silicone 2.25" elbow:

RC-1980 has 31.7 square inches. The RD-0720 has 66 square inches.

I screwed/riveted this thing on the air filter end for safety wire.

Inside there is backup for the screws. It was too long for rivets.

The tube jams nicely into the filter. Still it could work out, so I put 4 little brass flush screws around the perimeter.

The hose clamp keeps them captive.

I tie-wrapped a short piece of fuel line on the X of the motor mount, and ran a safety wire bridle through it - from the tab I riveted onto the end to the hose clamp.

Here is a picture from the front, showing the clearance on the exhaust. In hindsight, one of those cone shaped filters would have been better for clearance on the exhaust.
