Scott, I can't believe how quickly you got the first wing finished! you're already well into the second wing, so I have no doubt you'll be done with them in short order. You're blazing through the project!

As you all can see with these pictures, Scott is doing an excellent job on the project. The build quality is outstanding and Scott is going to have a very nice airplane once he's finished. I can't wait to see it! Scott, you better get on the hangar list soon; you're going to need it shortly!

Some more progress to report this week. The left wing control surfaces are now DONE!

Flap (in progress before final riveting):

And the Aileron, hung with care for trial run, works very nicely!

I think that my next tasks will be to construc the right wing control surfaces then I can dive into the right wing skins.

At the rate you're building the airplane Scott, I expect the right wing control surfaces to be done this evening, the right wing will be done by Thursday, and you'll have the fuselage complete by April!

Everything looks great...keep up the good work!! Please let me know if I can help with anything.

Wishful thinking Mike...but who knows? 2nd time always goes faster :)

The flap was hung today for test fit and movement, it works well!

And the gaps came out great.

Tonight I got a visit from Mr. Mike Farley! He helped me reposition my wings so I can continue with the skinning of my right wing. Mike also borrowed some of his tools back (clecos) for a project he is working on...I'll leave it up to Mike if he wants to share any details on what he's doing 8-)

Left wing is hung from the ceiling with care:

Right wing is in position on the table and ready for skinning!

Now that the control surfaces are all done, this wing should be finished in a few weeks.

Thanks for letting me swing by Scott!

These pictures don't do it justice, but Scott's workmanship is first class and he's going to have a really nice Sonex once he's finished! The first wing and control surfaces look excellent and I'm sure the second wing will be completed in very short order.

Keep up the good work Scott!

Looks good. Makes up for my lack of progress. Was sick last week, the whole family took turns. Plus my heat is out. Cold there. Please bring back global warming.

Well I see that Mike shared his "winter project" now that he finished...he already brought back the clecos he borrowed so it's time for me to continue on with my wing (not that he was holding me up!)

Upper / aft wing skin is mounted to a level and squared up wing...all holes are pilot drilled and updrilled to #30 where called for. This picture is from just the pilot hole drilling stage.

Image

Also completed mounting and final drilling of the aileron hinge...so of course had to test fit the aileron control surface!

Image

Mike had warned me there might be some clearance issues with the counterbalance bolts on the right wing and #12 rib. Fortunately there are no issues on my airframe.

Image

This weekend the plan is to flip the wing and do the lower skin and leading edge skin.

The right wing (second wing) is almost complete with the grunt work. Started pulling apart the skins this weekend after fitting the rib/wing tip. Learned a few new tricks...deburring with the countersink bit in the drill on low speed, with the skins still held in place is a lot easier then the hand deburring tool.

Fabricated the mount for the Pitot/Static Tube

And the mounting clips for the Pitot/Static tubes and the enlarged holes and grommets for the wiring
Image

A little more deburring on the skins, dimpling the leading edge skins, running the wiring and tubing and it's time to rivet the wing box!
