We use Windex on bare aluminum in our shop. It does a fantastic job removing finger prints, etc. Once flying, I swear by Mothers detailer spray and microfiber cloth for everything on the aircraft including canopy and windshield. We keep a spray bottle and cloths in the aircraft.

I also use window cleaner for general purpose cleanup on paint and bare metal. The stuff I like is called "Sparkle" and you can get it from Home Depot or other home improvement stores by the gallon. Best of all it contains no ammonia, leaves no residue and doesn't hurt the metal.
