Personally I've liked having an ammeter that shows me the entire situation of battery charge/flow. It gives me an idea of how long it takes my battery to recharge in-flight (i.e. how many amps are flowing back to the battery), at what RPM range the battery may start discharging, and/or whether I should shut off my secondary ignition (so far this is the biggest amp hog.) If/when I start adding additional loads it'll give me feedback on that as well, even if only used for testing on the ground.
