Smoke System

Postby GraemeSmith » Fri Feb 21, 2020 12:07 pm

Anyone got an experience with where to place the injector points on an AeroVee 2.1 with stock exhaust?

Everyone selling the injectors says "as close to the cylinder head as you can get" but there is the practical matter of actually doing that. I'm wondering if just below the "Y" where the individual pipes join together would do it.

Sorry - if this has been covered before - I couldn't get anything meaningful using the search function - except that some people have smoke systems!

Here's where they're installed on my Revmaster. I measured 10" out from the back exhaust tube on the right bank. The Revmaster exhaust is a 4 to 1, collector being right before the exhaust tip. There's only one oil injector in only one tube.

The real injector position...

To be fair, I have yet to use the smoke system, but I'm under the impression that it works. There was plenty of evidence of it's operation left behind on the belly...

Mine are way down on the lower exhaust pipes, which was Sonex's instructions when they were producing a smoke kit. It definitely produces smoke, but not as much as I had hoped. If someone is running the smoke with the nozzles closer to the heads, I'd love to hear (or see!) your experiences.

This makes me wonder, has anyone installed a Smoke System on an Aerovee Turbo? I'm sure placing the nozzles prior to the turbo is a bad idea. I wonder how effective it would be on the downpipe.
