Exhaust slip joints

Postby Sonex1517 » Mon Sep 16, 2019 8:58 pm

I have noticed on my new Gen 4 Jabiru 3300 that the exhaust slip joints are apparently leaking. This seems to be a common Jabiru behavior.

I’m curious what other Jabiru owners have done to solve it? I’ve heard copper sheets, some wrapping with specific materials, or high temperature epoxy.

Thoughts? Photos?

hi all, robbie,
yes thats a common problem area on the sonex jab 3 into 1 collector joint. weve tried different muffler paste(porsche) nothing worked well. dave amsler made up some tools to address this joint.
jab and cammitt (when in business ) have some puck type joint piece. thats why i sealed up the firewall rivets w clear dap caulk, and got a co monitor. you may want to start there first.
be good,

PM me if wanting photos and and a drawing of just how that tool helps seal the joints while still allowing free movement.

Just going by the exhaust residue on the outside of the pipes, my exhaust leaks more around the EGT sensors than at the slip joints. In fact leakage at the slip joints appears minimal. Any thoughts on sealing the EGT sensors?
