6.00x6

Will 6.00x6 tires fit inside standard Sonex wheel pants? I’m thinking of upgrading to real aircraft tubes and tires. I’ve got 5” now that came with the kit. I fly mostly off grass. I’m sure 6” is better than 5” in that regard

I have been running aircraft 500x5's on all 3 wheels using original Sonex wheels, The main gear wheel covers worked. I just put on some 15x600x6 tires on the mains and they do not fit in my Sonex wheel pants.

Mcreary Airhawks 5.00 x 5 are what I use. They are a couple of inches bigger in diameter than what comes with the Sonex. They only just fit in the Sonex wheel pants.

Larger Tires...……?

Hey Bill...….I installed 5:00x5 Airhawks on the stock wheels on my Onex.

They are a couple inches higher than the stock tires and just barely fit inside the wheel pant however no mods were needed.

I really doubt that you could use 6:00x6 tires and wheels without doing some fiberglass work.

I also have the Sonex 6" tail wheel...….makes for a good combination.

I'm using the slightly larger tire also. It is a no tread "slick" tire seen often in racing and just fits inside the stock wheel pants. I fly off of grass and a larger tire would be nice. I really dislike working with fiberglass so if someone comes up with a ready-to-use wheel pant I'd consider buying a set.

Thanks for the replies. Answers my question....I guess I will be going the 5.00x5 route. Any one brand better than another? I know, you get what you pay for.

I use Desser retreads on my factory built airplane. Aviation Consumer's recommended tires. No financial interest.

Will the 6.00 x 6 tires fit the stock wheels? Is there a better wheel to use? I'm looking at 6.00 x 6 tires to go with my Condor 2 tail wheel. The wheel pants are easily solved andd I'm not worried about fiberglass.
