For a brake bleeder, I use a garden type pressure tank normally used for bug spray or something. I cut the spray nozzle off and adapted a PVC tube to fit the brake bleeder vavle on the bottom of the brake caliper. I also have a ball valve on the PVC tube out of the tank. I pump up pressure in the plastic tank, connect the tube to the bleeder port and open the valve. Blake fluid flows up into everything, including the top reservoir. Yep, need a tube and catch container at the top for the excess. Close everything off, pump the brake pedal and if air is in there, repeat the process until a firm pedal.

wes,
the dorman part number for the self bleed brakes is #12703.1/4 -28. #12704 is 5/16-24.
i used #12703 , which screws into a brass fitting which screws into the sonex red alum brake housing .

hope this helps......

Thanks Guys,

Sounds like a top down or bottom up approach. I assume that the bottom up approach will only work with the standard bleeders.?.?
I'll try the top down first.

Going to try the Matco parking brake valve with toe brakes https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/lgpages/matcoPBVALVE.php?clickkey=7491
in a configuration shown following.

Hi Guys,

Got some done on the Onex.

I couldn't get comfortable that the 3/16 tubing was going to survive inside the fairing. So, I split some 1/4" tubing and ran the 3/16 inside of that from the wheel up to airframe entry. Seemed the best entry spot was through the bottom, just behind the gear leg, just inside of the longeron.

The leaver type brake makes for a simple installation, as hydraulic brakes go.

I've been sitting in the cockpit trying to sort out the ergonomics of trim, flaps, throttle, brake, and carb heat all on the left side. Just about ready to replace the temporary brake handle (used for bleeding) with the real deal so I can fit the parking brake bracket/angle. Seems the leaver only swings through about 10 angular degrees.

We'll See,

Guys,

I've been sitting in the cockpit. Mostly trying to figure out the location of the trim lever. But that is a different topic.

I got the brake lever installed and, providing I can find some suitable angle, will make the parking brake angle tomorrow.

I have some questions.

1) How much torque should I pull for the parking brake?
2) How do you guys make those cool looking finger grips in the control levers?
3) Does that plastic dip "stuff" work well? Does it hang on?

Thanks for Your Time,

Wes

I used a holesaw to make my finger grips. Plus some sort of jig to keep the depth the same.

I used a half moon file and heat shrink... but now I have a 3d printer I might print some handles..

I have twin levers in that arrangement for individual brakes.. no runway excursions for me now in a high cross wind situation.

I also used a half round file to make the finger grip on my flap handle. I merely painted it handle to match other levers in the cockpit (black)

For the brake handle I purchased a rubber handle grip from McMaster Carr. It slid onto the handle with enough resistance that it won’t slide off. It too is black although they offer them in red too.

Now, I don’t have to look at which handle I’m pulling on. If it’s made of rubber (like the tires) its the brake handle. If its smooth metal (like the flaps) its the flap handle.

Hi Guys,

I will have to make a McMaster order pretty soon. I'll see if I can find suitable grips. Sounds like the easy way out :-)

Got the parking brake angle in. Feels like it will work well. Just held the angle down by the leaver and pulled to what I thought would be a firm hold and made the notch there.

So, unless it doesn't work as well as it feels like it will, end of story.

Thanks Guys,

Wes
