Thanks Jake! By the way, cool to see you featured in Sport Aviation.

The bottom hinge hides under the motor mount. We flush riveted a piece of flashing to the hinge, and drilled it to the cowl. This was with the canopy on, and the hinge/flashing pinned to the fuselage. Then we removed it and drilled the holes.

Time to hack off the canopy bottom:

Here we have a waxed piece of flashing taped and clamped onto the edge. Next session we will do a wet layup to extend the edge we overtrimmed.

We trimmed the new glass and it is better. Here is my tooling to transfer the Southco holes to the cowl. If I was smart I would have left them as pilot holes and installed the Southcos later.

Countersink the fiberglass. Place spring onto southco fastener. Insert through countersunk hole. Attach the retaining washer to the backside of fastener.

Hi bryan, adam,
Looks good keep at it! , the hard part of the cowl is done, trimmed and fit. Hinges, exhaust exit tunnels, prob need to make those a little bigger than the plans say, for more cooling..have you thought about the b model side vents?. You can buy them from sonex. I think about $120 for a pair. Fiberglass & gel coated.

Michael, I am considering the side vents, but will likely​ go the cheap route.

Here is my tooling for the top hinge. It is a piece of scrap with a centerline marked and hinge holes transferred. We will put some of the holes in the cowl from the top.
