Bill Volcko had it after me. I think it was a reamer for the -3 taper pin though.

Control Stick is loose

Postby drPete » Mon Aug 07, 2017 4:10 pm

XenosB plans call for B&S #1 taper pin for mixer and control horn to shaft with a pair of #2 taper for the control stick fittings.

Found a #1 taper reamer https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/02401016 for under $20. Used the #1 reamer for both the #1 and #2 taper pins, though the reamer was well into the heal with the #2 pin.

The plans neglect the taper pin washers, but they are a key part of making the pin work as designed.

The #3 pin says .196-.317"
The #2 pin says .141-.255"
the #4 pin says .-250-.355

The #3 reamer says .3099" to 0.4510".
The #2 reamer says .2474" to .3781"
The #4 reamer says .3474" to 0.5017"

pin numbers are from Aircraft Sprucehttps://www.aircraftspruce.com/ca ... perpin.php
I am reading C and D demensions.

Reamer specs from https://www.aircraft-tool.com/shop/search.aspx

I don't think I am understanding the demensions correctly

That table on the spruce site isn't very clear. A #2 pin 0.255" is the small end of the taper. Ignore the 0.141" it is just the undercut between the 10-32 thread and the 0.255" start of the taper. To choose the pin length use the second dash number x 1/8" for the grip length.
Eg. An AN3862-8 is a #2 with a 1" long taper.

The spring loaded link will allow for rod link length changes as the tailwheel rod flexes.

Simpler fix for that problem is to install both the rod end bearings under their brackets, bolts facing up. S bend of rod will then be in about same plane as the titanium tail spring eliminating most all tendency for rod steer the tail wheel as spring flexes.

Put a #2 taper pin in place of the AN4 bolt. Thanks for all the input. Bought the pin from AS and the reamer from Aircraft tool in MI. Did not have to take too much metal out and the pin is tight. Had to cut off some of the non threaded end. Used a nylock nut and the taper pin washer to pull it snug..

Got Condition inspection signed off today. Back to pilot mode.

For a new installation on my mixer, I am going to use #1 taper pins. What length is needed?

I am not near the parts until the end of the week or I would measure them.

TIA,
Rick
