To all of you who told me my instruments were mounted too low on the panel - you were right. For the CDI, and more surprisingly for the breakers and cigarette lighter plugs we had to hack the crosspiece. What I decided is to make .040" doublers not only to reinforce but also to mount the throttle, trim, and mixture. In the dial-a-trim kit they give you a big hunk of extrusion.
Here Adam is laying out the bend lines for the doubler.
Then over to brake-a-saurus.
I certainly have the technology to calculate bend radius, but I taught him the shop way. I prefer that way myself. Carefully measure and bend scrap, adjust, and when it is figured out do the real part.
You can see all the scrap parts. The final part nicely nests between our subpanel and crosspiece.
