Control stick forward throw

I added 2" to the bottom of my instrument panel, as many do, and wondering if the control stick must be short enough to go under or at least not hit the instrument panel. I purchased the Sonex grip and will be attaching it soon to the control stick. I'm a week or so from putting the tail on so I don't know how much movement is needed.

My subpanel is 2.5" high. My sticks clear by an inch or so. I plan to use a bike grip on the stick.

You plan on doing outside loops? I don't recall needing all the down elevator throw ever.

No outside loops, ever, for me.

Darick,

Your stick will have to demonstrate full range of motion between all the stops. The DAR or FAA inspector will check to see that it has free movement between all the stops and that you have a full range of deflection for your elevator and ailerons. If you ever or a subsequent owner ever brings it to an A&P for a condition inspections, the A&P will also check for full range of motion and deflection.

In practical terms, you would also hate to be practicing stall recoveries and have the stick get bound up underneath the instrument panel.

I use full forward stick to get the tail flying on takeoff roll. The only other time full forward stick is used is to dislodge wayward cross country Cheetos from the bowels of the seat pan. Accidently, of course.

If you will have any button on top of your stick, Push-to-talk or trim or ??, make sure there is room for that AND your thumb.

If your grip will adds to height, can slightly shorten the tube by similar amount.

I cut mine down .the dar did check my control throws .need every bit of throw to match plans
