Looking forward to seeing everyone this year at Oshkosh AirVenture! I will be staying at Rochelle Friday and Saturday night at an informal gathering of Sonex aircraft (Robbie had a post on this fly-in - Search for Rochelle). The plan is to leave Sunday morning from Rochelle to Oshkosh and taxi to the Sonex hangars for the homecoming. I will be camping and plan to participate in the mass taxi and then break off for homebuilt camping when we cross the field. I hope we can get a good sized group to taxi to camping together and create a mini Sonex area in HBC.

The oil is changed, the plane is packed, the pilot can't concentrate at work... See you in Oshkosh!!!

Mike and I are planning on wheels up from KFLY saturday morning, final stop in Portage before threading through the mass arrivals. Planes will be on the Sonex line. We'll taxi over to the homecoming on Sunday and join the mass taxi back. Staying the dorms. Departing Thursday morning. Our planes are tanned, rested and ready!

Officially geeking out! :D :D :D

Should be in Watertown around 1pm local Saturday. Hoping to bump into Mike Smith and fly with him on the last leg into the show. Staying with a friend in town so #600 should be on the HBP line all week. Intend to participate in the open house/mass taxi on Sunday and whatever other Sonex related trouble I can get myself into for the week.

Mass arrivals:
11:00 Cherokees (30 planes)
1:00 Bonanzas (120-150 planes)
2:30 Cessnas (80 planes)

Last year I landed by 10am so no issues. I'm vacationing near the Watertown airport so I can leave any time.

My plan "A" is to wait until after the Cessnas if the wx is going to remain good for the afternoon. So maybe take off around 4pm which would put me on the Fisk Arrival 45 min later.

Plan "B" if the wx was going to deteriorate later in the day would be to plan to arrive no later than 10am, but that would probably preclude any of us flying in together.

Current forecast Saturday is for light winds (8-10 mph), partly cloudy, 89 deg, possible but low chance of thunderstorm during the day, increasing from 5pm-10pm. So Plan A could work.

Thoughts from anyone?

Given the heat of the day, I'm hoping for Saturday before the arrivals begin. I never sleep before leaving anyway, so a predawn launch from Ohio is standard for me. I'm hoping I can be at RIPON before 1000 local.

If not, Saturday evening or Sunday morning is also fine!

Everyone fly safe!

I prefer plan A for selfish reasons. I'm simply not going to get there in the morning unless I put miles behind me on Friday which will probably add another hundred bucks in hotel costs to my thin budget.

I'm partial to Plan A so I can spend more time with my family, but weather will likely be the determining factor. Let's see what the forecast brings on Thursday/Friday.

We'll probably be in Portage during the Bonanza mass insertion. Monitor the freq and launch after they clear.

Why not just deviate to Watertown and launch from there on the off chance Mike and I can follow you guys? Over 100 Bonanzas are gonna take a few minutes to get in.
