At the early stages of polish, mineral spirits work well to remove the excess polish, but it leaves a film. I use rubbing alcohol in the highest percent. It dissolves the residue and leaves no film or streaks. This is how I clean now when I re-polish, and to remove bugs. The late Tom Huebbe turned me onto that trick, and I rarely use mineral spirits.
