Sun-n-Fun 2012

Postby sonex293 » Sat Mar 31, 2012 9:31 am

I was unable to make it to Sun-n-Fun this year, so I've been trying to keep up to date by checking various website. Every morning I've been checking the GA News "Sun n' Fun Today" newspaper online. I've seen Wayne Andrews' Sonex twice and now Kip has made the paper. Check page 54 on Saturday's issue...http://issuu.com/flyermedia/docs/day_5_snf_2012_2/1.

Wish I was there...

Hey, that's great! Congrats to Kip for his article and recognition of his beautiful Waiex!

I didn't make it this year either but I sure am hoping to get to Oshkosh this summer. I'm glad Sun'n'Fun seemed like a good one this year.

Hopefully we can all meet at Oshkosh!!

Hehe. Last page is better than no page at all, right?

Meg from General Aviation News and Flyer wanted to "interview" me an hour after landing. She said that there may be a bigger article in her magazine in the future.

Just got back. Flew about 6.5 total hours down and back. Met lot's of cool people just by running into them. Old friends all the way to respected airshow pilots. Overall a great time. Not too many Sonex's present though despite Florida having many Sonex builders/flyers...hmmm. I did appreciate the beer bought by Jeremy at the Sonex gathering at the Sunset Grill.

We did have a 40mph gust front from a nearby storm but it was not a problem.

I had ton's of prospective builders stop by and I sold about 8 tailwheel brackets!

Looking forward to OSH now...!

Very cool Kip! Glad you had a good trip! 3 hours is awesome...where do you keep your plane? You're going to have a problem here soon when you'll need to choose which plane to fly between the Waiex or the Pitts

I keep the Waiex 50 miles outside of Atlanta. Cheaper hangar rent. The Pitts will not pose a problem any time in the near future. It's going to be a slow build. The biggest problem is how much room in the house that it takes up. I do get to choose between the Kolb and the Waiex every trip to the hangar and I usually excercise both... 8-)

Here's a pic. I don't have many others to share as the Sonex showing was weak. There was only one other Sonex in the Homebuilt Camping area during my stay. I did see another taxiing out for takeoff on Sunday as I was doing the same. Not sure where he was parked.

You will notice that there is not one "RV" on the front row. I heard that the folks that parked us wanted "interesting" types on the front row...

By the way, the Homebuilt Camping area is a great place to hang out...food/drinks/live entertainment all from a bunch of dedicated airplane lovers. Great people... :D

Sun-n-Fun 2012

Looks like it was thinning out in that picture. I loved the camping area too, definitely going back there. It was nice to meet Yorg too (if I got that right). I was impressed with how friendly and easy to talk to EVERYONE was there, in all areas. I appreciate te free daiquiri from the Monetts as well.
