Marked up aileron skins. The drive ribs, clecoed together without the horns, make a nice stable way to set the height while marking.

As a sanity check I put the skins together, mirrored in 3 orientations and verified the markings were the same on both ailerons.

I did the 40" mistake too and had to redo that area, which I also saw on this photo album. So I am very qualified to join.

I'm now in the process of reviewing all the entries in your album about the fuselage construction to avoid future reworks!

Hi Bryan,

Looks great! How do you plan to cut the slots for the control horns on the ailerons? I can only think to drill the radius holes at the end and then to use a cutting wheel. But I kinda hate the wheel due to nick possibilities. :lol:

I have the same plan as you. I also use the Force to guide my hands. Also I usually cut a little shy of the line and use a mini file and/or an angle sander.

Hi, Bryan,

I just got through sending a long message to the Forum regarding the "40 inch mistake" Then when I clicked on Submit, I got the "not signed in correctly" notice. So, not going into a long version again, I'll just ask you about it. I,m just about finished with my fuselage, and if somewhere along the line I've made that mistake, now would be the time for me to know about it.

No progress last week. Was at summer camp with the Boy Scouts. Great week! WX was mostly good. Mosquitoes were a bit thick.

So to trim my aileron skins, I first cut the corners with a cutoff wheel in my 4" grinder. Then out came the shears, then the angle sander, then the files.


For the drive horns and counterweights I got out the dremel. My nibbler is too big.



Here they are. Sharp before the edge finishing. Those parts have blood on them!
