I'm an electrician by trade. I've got to say, I'm very impressed with your home made cable labels on your blog.

Always good to see electrons running around and behaving. Question, what is mounted up high on the firewall? I was going to get the tank installed for keeps, but if I need that real estate I probably shouldn't.

On the upper firewall I mounted the MGL RDAC and my main fuse box. Firewall space is really tight if you have the turbo. It's free mounting space though if you just mount nutplates (there is about a 1/2" gap between fuel tank and upper firewall), then you can install the fuel tank and not have to access the back side of the upper firewall again.

Also, depending on where you pass wires through the firewall, having access to the upper firewall can ease installation (without the fuel tank installed.) For that matter, mounting everything on the firewall is much easier without fuel tank/glareshield in the way.

If you don't ever plan to go turbo, you probably don't need to use upper firewall for mounting. I also added a few extra doohickeys (alternator switch/overvoltage protection, switch for secondary ignition) that further cramped my mounting space.

Signed the lease for my hangar today, KRKW in Rockwood, TN. Still at least a month away from moving in, but wanted to snag it while it was available.

New hangars at my airport were supposed to be ready last year, finally got to move into mine two days ago. Yours looks to be same size, my little bird looks lonesome in there even with its not likely to be re-used (I hope) trailer. Laid out on CAD, found that If I used swivel caster dollies, could get three Sonex in there. (Six if changing last "a" to and "e" in hangar.) What will keep yours company? :-)

Just a workbench for starters, Lease is pretty strict and clear in it's wording of 1 plane per hangar, no subleases, no furnature, no fun, etc.

Hi Ryan,
I moved to Maryville last year and would love to see your project sometime. I enjoyed reading your blog. I'm hoping to be at the EAA17 meeting next month to meet all the "local" guys and hopefully get some intel on a hangar...

Ryan,

That's a shame nothing extra allowed. In my hanger with my Waiex is a double reclining La-Z-Boy Loveseat, micro wave for warming the coffee on those chilly days. Some nights its enjoyable to kick back with notepad and write down my need to do's, want to do's and have to do's.
I thought about one of those small refrigerators you see at Home Desperato but I know how that would go. Put some beer in it and then nothing would ever get done. Better forget that idea!

Even the electrical is on a timer, never more than 30 minutes worth before you have to spin the meter again. Warm beer no good.
