Always good to see electrons running around and behaving. Question, what is mounted up high on the firewall? I was going to get the tank installed for keeps, but if I need that real estate I probably shouldn't.
On the upper firewall I mounted the MGL RDAC and my main fuse box. Firewall space is really tight if you have the turbo. It's free mounting space though if you just mount nutplates (there is about a 1/2" gap between fuel tank and upper firewall), then you can install the fuel tank and not have to access the back side of the upper firewall again.
Also, depending on where you pass wires through the firewall, having access to the upper firewall can ease installation (without the fuel tank installed.) For that matter, mounting everything on the firewall is much easier without fuel tank/glareshield in the way.
If you don't ever plan to go turbo, you probably don't need to use upper firewall for mounting. I also added a few extra doohickeys (alternator switch/overvoltage protection, switch for secondary ignition) that further cramped my mounting space.
