How can I tell if a specific Serial # has lifter problem?

Postby Animosity2k » Fri Jan 31, 2020 5:06 pm

I have a Jabiru 3300 serial # I am trying to look into to see if it is an earlier model that had the lifter issues. Where could I go to find such information?

The last time I had questions about a Jabiru 3300 serial number for similar reasons I called the guys at Arion Aircraft, the Jabiru dealer for the eastern US in Shelbyville, TN. Their number is 931-680-1781. They have all of that info and were very helpful.

From the Jabiru Overhaul manual.

2.13.14 Solid lifters
• 2200 and 3300 engines earlier than serial number [22A-2068] or [33A-961] utilise solid lifters driven by a 330° camshaft.
2.13.15 Hydraulic lifters
• 2200 and 3300 engines from serial number [22A-2068] or [33A-961] use hydraulic lifters.
2.13.16 Roller Followers
• 2200 and 3300 engines from serial number [22A-3596] or [33A-2539] use hydraulic lifters with roller bases.

Its been said that the early hydraulic lifters had performance problems. Not sure if they resolved it before coming out with the roller base lifters.
