2200 engine pulses

Postby Lsaircraft » Mon Feb 20, 2017 9:30 pm

Any body right off know how many pulses the 2200 engine puts out, I am trying to set it up with my MGL ultra and it says per 10 pulses

Hi,

If you are using the alternator as your pulse source , it should be set to 5.
I put a 47K ohm resistor in series to dampen the pulses and improve accuracy on a Dynon D180.

Cheers

It does depend on where you are picking up the pulses. The MGL needs to know how many pulses/ 10 revolutions of the engine. I pick it up from one of the ignition coils so in my case that is 20.

Great thanks Guys
I am pulling off the Kill switch terminal at the Coil.
Guess that means I need to set it at 20. Ill try the bigger resister method, right now I have a 10 K resister in it and can't get anything to go through it, other than a voltage with the voltage meter, disconnect that and run a wire straight to the rdac and it works, Thanks Again.

I spent a lot of time initially trying to get the rev counter reading properly. First off I tried using the little Hall effects sender that comes with the engine, couldn't get that to work. Tried using the alternator, that bounced all over the place, don't think I tried a 47k ohm resistor though like Tony. Picking it up off the ignition coil works ok for me and a 12K ohm resistor. I tried different resistors but it didn't make much difference. Mine jumps around a little at idle ( from 950-960-940-950) but I can live with that. The other thing on mine is when doing a Mag check, when switching off #1 mag (where the rev counter is connected to) I lose the rev counter reading but I can live with that also.

I tried EVERYTHING to get my RPMs to settle down. I picked it up off the alternator, the mag, adjusted the RDAC settings, adjusted the EFIS settings, flipped dip switches, resistors, and ended up with the Camit sensor.

The closest I came to getting it right before the Camit was picking it up off the left mag in combination with a resistor. It worked pretty well until the resistor crapped out on my way to Oshkosh last year. Without the resistor, the mag would ground out on the RDAC when the engine would get warm and I'd be running on one ignition. Also didn't like that the RPMs would go to zero during a mag check.

Perfect with the Camit sensor now.
