I doubt it would fit a 3300 sonex

Has anyone done the stator modification from Jabiru "Procedure For Upgrading 12 Pole Alternator AVDALSR087-2 20th September 2012". They say it starts charging at 900 RPM instead of 1800 with this mod.

Jim,
Is that mod posted in the public domain? I don't have a Jabiru but I do work at a company that makes aircraft generators!

Hi Jim, it says (I assume using same voltage reg) it will put out 12V at 900rpm...not quite enough for charging I think.
It doesn't say how much load current it would support at that speed, so I'm wondering if it would be worth the effort.
My trusty Odessey is going on about 6 years now and has not failed me yet, hot or cold (oil heater used), but I also have not spent extensive time taxiing around with everything powered up.

Did you have any damage from the quake?

I dug it up here:

But I assume it is on their web site somewhere. I had missed this.

Bascially take the existing alternator and move it from two parallel windings to a single continous one. Higher voltage, less current, but they don't mention anything about it. It certainly is simple enough to consider doing. I have an LED on the panel from the regulator showing when it isn't supplying voltage and while it hasn't impacted me, it annoys me ;-)

I don't see a real need to do this mod. The Odyssey battery in my plane can handle the electrical load on my plane while taxiing fine. The Aerovoltz LiPo battery I originally had it really could handle the load. Unfortunately I killed that battery.

Thanks everyone (FYI no earthquake effects in southern California). So, twice the voltage and half the current is what I'm hearing. Not sure if that would make night time touch and goes charge the battery any better.
