3300 Baffle Install

Has anyone completed a baffle install recently?

My old one finally gave way because the aluminum get's torqued around every oil change trying to get to the drain plug (I have just installed the 90 oil drain so it's not an issue now).

Sonex shipped what seems to be a new design that is not factory bent like the original. The shape seems a bit odd so if anyone can share a pic of what it looks like installed that would be great. I'm assuming that Sonex has revised their engine install manual to describe how to bend this thing.

Incidentally, I am operating without the baffle right now and it's like operating with a "winterization" kit. My oil temps are right in the middle of the green at about 40 degrees F aloft. Above about 55 degrees it get's near the yellow.

In the pic you will see my original baffle which is modified in the front with a bracket. I found no way that the stock shape would fit without cutting off the very front and making a very thin bracket as the cowling goes right up to that area leaving no space...

I recieved my baffle kit late 2011 and it was pre bent. In fact it was bent wrong with the oil slot on the wrong side.

I just received my baffle kit last week and everything was flat.. no pre-bend. Also, no instructions on how i should bend it either. I basically threw it in the corner and havent looked at it much yet (as my engine hasn't even arrived yet).

have you seen this document (i think this is old)?

What oil cooler do you have? This "old" document seems to recommend an "Aero-Classics 8000075"

The engine install paperwork that i just received last week says to buy the "Jeg's 130-70265" oil cooler which looks thinner than the Aero Classics, and more in line with the baffle that you have there. They did include some oil cooler mounting bracket drawings with the engine install guide that look different from the ones shown in the above linked document..

Yep, the document shows my "old" installation. I'm thinking that the baffle attatches to the forward tab of the oil cooler now rather than the aft one.

I hope my cooler still has a front tab. I may have removed it to save weight... :?

Ahh.. so you have the Aero-Classics oil cooler? Wonder why sonex switched (probably price). Wonder what the difference in performance between the two are....

Yep, my cooler is genuinely certified ( :D ) and I paid the price for it. It's probably a cost thing...
