Dynon EMS-D10 with AeroVee Tach Issues

Hi,

I am hoping to pick the brain of someone flying their AeroVee with Dynon EMS-D10 instrumentation.

I am having trouble getting the tach to work properly on the EMS-D10 when picking up from the AeroVee magnatrons. Indications were erratic with a each 19K and 30K series resistor, and I had no indication with a 47K series resistor. The Dynon manual says to keep increasing series resistance (up to 150K) until indications stabilize, but that isn't working in my case.

Has anyone been through this before and found a solution?

I have a good tach when picking up off of the electonic ignition (with a 30K series resistor), but I want to have two tach inputs to the Dynon so I don't lose RPM indication when I check the ignition systems.

Thanks,

Hi Andrew,

Are you able to pickup an alternator wire between the voltage regulator and alternator output with the aerovee?
I have D180 and Jab 2200, we use one of the alternator output wires as the tach feed to the Dynon via 33Kohm resistor... doesnt suffer the ignition check issue.

Cheers
Tony

Hi Tony,

My EMS-D10 manual says that it can connect to the alternator output directly (via a 1A fuse). I have tried that and had no luck. It's time to verify the Dynon harness...

Got it working! The Dynon EMS harness was good. I just switched to the other alternator output and other side of the voltage regulator and it worked through 1A fuse. I have a 10A alternator, so I set the EMS to 5 pulses/rev.
