Single vs multi grade oils

I came across a comment by Mike Busch in one of his articles about oil that was interesting: While we normally always use multi-grade oils these days, and they give much better lubrication on startup than single-grade oils, single-grade oils actually has one advantage over multi-grades: Precisely because they are so thick at room temperature, they stay on parts much better and provide better corrosion protection when the engine isn't used.

Given the corrosion situation and periods of disuse our engine's seeing, I'm tempted to try straight SAE 30 or 40 grade oil. Trading off some startup wear against better corrosion protection seems like a win where we're at.
