Flywheel

Postby Darick » Fri Aug 26, 2016 10:56 pm

There are eight dowel pins on the end of the crank that mate with the flywheel. It is supposed to be a tight fit but it won't go on. I've cleaned everything numerous times even trying to polish the pins as stated in the instructions. But really, dowel pins are hardened steel and while polishing may reduce a .0001 burr, it's been fours of frustration that yielded no progress.

Tomorrow I'm going to hone out the eight holes with s strip of sandpaper, taped and rolled around a mandrel (an old drill). I'm guessing I'll have to remove .002-.004 on the diameter of each hole before it will slide on.

I can't find any other posts on thus subject. Has anyone else had this problem?

I had the same issue. I used some sandpaper attached as a flap to a dowel and stuck that in a drill to hone out the holes on the flywheel.

Hey Darick.

Yes. I did what Keith recommends and very carefully worked on the flywheel.

Thanks Keith, Robbie. I'm on the right track then. Even though it's frustrating sometimes, it's nice to know others have had the same experience and can discount the concern that I have a "bad" part.
