Setting the deck height

I am setting the deck height and compression ratio. Compression ratio is going to be 8:1. When I measure the deck height according the Aerovee manual it ranges from +0.01 to 0.00 (piston below the cylinder). I measured in the center and 4 places around the outside using a straight edge and standing it up against the studs. The measurements are 0.00, +0.005, +0.007, +0.008, the center is +0.01. The chart shows the required shims are the same for 0.00 and +0.01. I guess my question is where do you measure or did I do it right the right way?

The manual shows to measure at the edge, which is how I did mine. make sure the cylinder is seated all the way around. I gently tapped it with the soft mallet to make sure it was seated.

The piston has considerable clearance in the bore cold. It could be slightly cocked giving you the odd measurements.

Thanks for the help. I ended up rotating the crank again and re checked the deck height. I had the same results. When I checked the shim chart all the measurements fell within the same range for one .06 shim. 0.00 deck height required one and +0.01 required one.
