Crankcase Venting to Intake

Postby Gunther » Thu Jul 03, 2014 3:52 pm

Hello to all. I recently encountered a discussion on HomeBuiltAirplanes.com where a gentleman vented his VW crankcase to the carb intake. His registered username is "Pops" and the discussion is entitled, "Possible VW option for 94 hp". He included some excellent photos. Looks like a nice installation and an interesting idea.

I expect the power loss to be very small as an old rule-of-thumb says to expect a 2% decrease in power for a 100% increase in relative humidity at 32 deg. F.

If anyone has actually tried this with an AeroVee or other engine, please share your experience.

Thanks,
Gunther

I guess my question would be why? The only upside is not having to empty a catch can of oil every few months.

Isn't this basically what automobile engines do with the PCV valves?

The sonex aerobatic oil separator solves it too. Zack and I did some dog fighting this morning, not a smear on my bottom afterwards.
