Outboard lower unit gear oil seals might prove to be your friend.

Those have a silicone coating and have never been my favorite. I like the fiber only type like Yamaha uses.

5,000,000 happy Mercury owners probably makes the silicone gasket a viable option though.

Something to consider is the possible difference in thread diameter of the different brands. I know the thread pitch is not universal, but unsure of the diameter.

Good idea, as you can't tighten those acorn nuts enough for them to self lock. I'll get a passel of them to drill to have on hand for the next oil change.
