Yours must have had a different ring then... the one in my kit (and the 2nd one I ordered) had about a 3/8" to 1/2" ring split gap straight out of the box.
Since tech support didn't comment directly about my video, I've sent them another inquiry to specifically confirm the play I have is acceptable.
