Wing Length

Was wondering if anyone knows the actual length of each wing. Trying to figure out how to make it work in my build space.

Could you add the tips on once you get it to a hangar? It would be nice if they folded up like a Onex!!!!

Any other thoughts of managing an aircraft that has a 46’ span, build wise? I like the trailer that is on the Sonex site...wonder how practical taking the wings off are (even if once or twice a year.)

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Think I may have answered my own question. I see that the Pre-Assembled Wing Spar on the Sonex site shows up as 21'.

Hi Ryan, at about 4:10 in my video there are pictures of how I loaded my Waiex into a 26' Uhaul truck, then some time-lapse footage of removing it from the truck. Uhaul website shows the interior length of the cargo area as 23' 6', so it might just fit the Xenos wings as well.

Hi Ryan,

The standard way to attach the wing tips is with piano hinges and they are designed to be removable. It should take less than 5 minutes to attach or remove them.

With a little practice it should take you approx. 1-1/4 hours to completely remove the wings and about 1-1/2 hours to reinstall them. I wouldn't recommend doing it often, and it’s certainly not practical to install and remove the wings each time you'll fly.

Hi Ryan,

My completed Xenos wings are sitting in my hangar. If you still need measurements, let me know. I will be out there this weekend.

That would be awesome if you could lay a measuring tape to it! I'm trying to figure out how to make this work in a roughly 22-20 space. I'm thinking I may have to make the tail and fuselage first then do the wings in a hangar. Would be nice to keep it in the house as long as I can though.

Not expecting to take the wings off much, but it is nice to know it has the potential storage, if needed.

Thanks for everything, guys!

Ryan

Ryan, the spar stub is 36.5 in. and the wing panel is 212.25”so total length is 248.75”. The tips are added after wings are complete.

Just to be clear, the smallest enclosure would be 249/12=20.75 feet, not including wing tip?
I’m building the Xenos quick-build in a 24 ft long shed. Assembled wings from Sonex arrive in April, so I am curious how much extra space there will be. Sounds like about 24ft - 21ft = 3ft, correct?

Don't forget about the 3' of spar overlap on each wing.
