Do any Sonex owners here have some real world performance numbers with a 912 uls installed? I'm finding performance numbers rather hard to find on the net in regard to the Sonex airframe.

I don't have that answer but I wanted to say for what its worth that ASA has a book available on the 912. If interested just search Aircraft Spruce for ASA ROTAX 912 ENGINE INTRODUCTION. I'm sure Sporty's and the other aviation book outlets have it as well. I just ordered it. Hopefully somebody has the performance numbers you're looking for.

Peter and Brett,

You can check out Sonex883.com for info on a Rotax powered Sonex.

It will require translation to English, but they have some performance data and their contact information.

At economy cruise they claim 110 kts but this is at 4500 rpm where 5500 is max continuous. They also claim climb of 1000 to 2000 fpm.

There are multiple YouTube videos of Rotax powered Sonex Aircraft in South America and Europe, but not many with performance figures. I am assuming the Rotax 912 ULS will at least have the performance of an RV12 with a Rotax and probably do a lot better.

I have the Rotax engine mount and mounting bars from Sonex and will be purchasing the engine in the coming months.

That's great will take a look.

The Rotax Website doesn't make it easy to find their dealers. I only see the outfit in California.

Here are the establishments I found that will sell builders a Rotax engine. Hopefully Sonex will become a Rotax distributor too like they are for UL and were previously for Cammit and Jabiru.

Lockwood
Leading Edge Airfoils
Zenith/Zenair
Titan Aircraft

Also check out Homebuilt Help. They have a really good set of DVD’s on Rotax installations.

Brett,

These images are part of the test schedule required by the LAA before a permit to fly can be granted, the LAA is the UK version of the EAA, the differences being that we are more regulated and have to build as per plans and include any modifications that the LAA require,
The tests were completed by myself and are for two Bristell NG5 aircraft one being powered by a Rotax 912uls with a Fiti variable pitch propeller which has two settings take off and cruise, the other is a powered by a Jabiru 3300A with a Sensenich 64 inch ground adjustable propeller.
The Bristell aircraft were the 27 feet short wing version, the Jabiru is a tri gear (nose dragger)and the Rotax being a tail dragger.

I went trough the "Completions" list on the Sonex web site - you will find several 912 ULS variants, most with contact details.
