Robbie - when you refer to an "Apple bus" what are you referring to? I will be putting in a USB power port, one with at least a 2A output for the iPad.

I just purchased a 'EA DUAL USB PANEL MOUNT CHARGING JACK' for $29.99 from Aircraft Spruce, part #11-12631. It seems very simple; i.e., one power line and one ground line. I plan on installing this into my panel later this fall and will offer a PIREP once i try it out. Now that I use ForeFlight on my iPad and iPhone for most basic navigation, this seemed like a logical addition to the panel!

Hey kids, have you considered this?

USB chargers that have batteries. So if you lose your electrical system, they still can charge your iPad! I'm thinking pretty cool!

I have a little round one, 3000 MaH, which works pretty good. I will probably put a cigar lighter plug in my Waiex. Then I can get a USB adapter, or the adapter for whatever comes next.

Here's what I incorporated into my panel. Purchased from the eBay aviation department.

I have the cigarette lighter wired directly to the battery with an inline fuse so that I can hook a battery tender to it to keep the battery topped off. The usb socket is wired through my fuse panel so that it is only powered with the master switch on.

Be careful what you put in as a USB port. Not all devices use the same amperage for charging.
For instance I have an ASUS 10" tablet that would not charge unless I had more that 1 amp available. Most phone chargers only use transformers that are 5 volt but also limited to .7 amp output. This will not charge most tablets. The Nexes 7 requires 1.7 amps to charge. Just be sure what the Transformer you use has the capacity you need for your device.
