Turbocharger fan & pump

Postby thomasjones42 » Thu Jul 15, 2021 4:21 pm

In my Aerovee turbocharger installation the switch running my fan & water pump is three position: On, Off, and Auto. In the Auto position the thermostat in the bearing housing is supposed to shut down the fan & pump when the bearing temp reaches 180-160 degrees F. This cooling system does not shut down in the Auto mode and after testing some new thermostats both hot and cold, I replaced the existing one thinking the original was not functioning. The result was no change. System continues to run in either the On or Auto switch position. Bearing temp sitting in my air conditioned shop reads 78 degrees on a laser thermometer. Electronics unfortunately are not my strong suit. Any ideas?

Hi Tom,

https://www.sonexaircraft.com/documents ... System.pdf

Is it possible that the lead from the 12v supply and the lead direct to the pump/fan (bypassing thermostat) are swapped at the switch? 12v supply needs to be tied to the switch’s center tap. This may be obvious but I thought worth mentioning.
