Aiming taxi & landing lights

Postby Bryan Cotton » Sat Oct 12, 2019 9:31 am

Hey all,
I'm hoping to test out my landing lights electrically soon. I'd like to have a reasonable first pass at aiming them. Does anybody have a procedure like park X feet from hangar, beam center is y feet high?
Thanks,

I just waited until night time and parked on the taxiway to see what I could see. With a tail dragger, if you only have one light, you're going to have to choose the best angle for landing or the best angle for taxiing. I don't know of a good way to decide the angle for landing other than giving it a try. On approach you get one best angle, and on flare you get a different best angle (probably about the same as the best angle for taxi, since in both cases the tail wheel is on the ground). So take your pick.

Thanks Mike. I have two lights. Most of the useage will be in the day with wig wags going. I'll set one on the taxiway and one a little lower, I would assume.

That's the ideal setup! :-)

I have mine set with one lower and one higher. When landing I flip my switch up which turns on both lights, when taxiing I can flip the switch down and just taxi with the taxi light on the left wing.
