Which landing light did you go with Mike (or anybody)?

I purchased a kit from another member on this site who had inherited the kit as part of a project purchase. The LED light kit is from www.freshaero.com but I think they're having website issues. I was originally thinking Duckworks but the kit I bought was cheaper.

If I ever get around to installing it, I'll give a full write up. Probably won't be until at least this winter though.

For fifty dollars you can get 1500 lumen landing lights at http://stores.advmonster.com/model-30-l ... pot-light/ . They have spot and flood lights up to 2500 lumen for ninety dollars, with a bulkhead mounting bracket you can get for them. The owner built a homebuilt in the past, so he knew what I was doing and was very helpful . I have the aveo powerburst also and love them(still building though).

I posted earlier and didn't see it come up so this may be a duplicate ...

I installed a set of these using my old Duckworths mounting brackets:

Set of two for $82.00 and they are 2590 Lumens each. Very bright!

That is definitely the best bang for your buck I've seen! Wish I saw that a year ago!

Wow, those are cheap! Do you have a picture of your mounting Dale?

The one issue I see is they only have an 8 degree beam, vs 30 degrees for most lights.

Hi Bryan,

I did a little research before buying these. You are correct about the 30º beam on lights but that's mostly for taxi lights. I read that taxi lights are generally 20-40º for beam spread and landing lights are 7- 20º depending on landing speeds. 16º for landing and 32º for taxi seems about right.

The good news is that the beam on these seems to me (and other reviewers) to be more than the stated 8º. Because I don't fly at night mine are more for visibility by others when I'm in the vicinity of the airport and on final approach. I have a wig-wag module but it isn't wired into the system yet.

For mounting I used the brackets from my Duckworth lights that I removed:

There are four machine screw holes in the rear of the lights making it easy to mount to the Duckworth mounting plate (those are easy enough to bend up from some scrap aluminum instead of buying them). Using those I retain the ability to aim the lights as needed.

I have a few photos on my computer but no way to post them. If you want to see or post them to the site just send me an email address I can forward them to.

Best,
