Magnatron on AeroVee

Postby ScottM-Sonex1629 » Wed Dec 10, 2014 10:53 pm

Working thru my electrical wiring now. I have the recommended DPST switch in the panel for the AeroVee Magnatron ignition circuit.

Question on the type of wiring to use from the poles of the switch to the P-leads on the upper and lower mags. The AeroVee manual calls for 20 ga wiring minimum. Should it be shielded or is normal AWG wire okay?

Thanks

I am in the process of doing the wiring for my Sonex.
I am not an expert on wiring but...

I am using shielded 18 ga wire.
I have grounded the shielding at the engine.
I have run a separate shielded ground wire and the two shielded wires for the magnatrons.

I am still a while away from starting my engine.

I used plain old 20 ga. like the book said. Keep in mind there is no "current " flowing through this wire . It's only in use for that brief moment when doing your mag check. As a reminder, the "on" position of the switch turns the mag off.

I'll send you my wiring diagram. I have 18 ga, shielded wire. The shielding is cut flush at the switch-end, and grounded at the mag-end. I've had no issues with noise in the radio.
