Vertical Stabilizer Lower Spar Channel

Postby BobDz » Tue Mar 19, 2024 2:01 pm

Has anyone removed the Lower Spar Channel (T12-04) from the vertical stabilizer and installed it on the aft fuselage first? There is a 4" access hole in the r/h side skin for access to the hardware. Just thinking it would be easier, and probably more accurate, to install it this way than to balance the entire vertical stabilizer for installation.

Kind of a solo builder issue.

Hi Bob, the instructions are a little confusing but that is how you are supposed to assemble the aft fuselage. On drawing F-21, detail A, they tell you to remove that part from the vertical tail assembly and to assemble it with the fuselage. There are a couple of temporary spacers that are removed when you eventually fit the tail to the fuselage.

Thank you Peter for clearing that up for me. I've looked at that detail several times and the reference is quite vague. Add that to the reference on T09, and it all makes perfect sense.
