After assembling the tail feathers to this stage, I have come to the conclusion that the extra cost for the Quick Build Kit option may be money well spent! :-/

John,
I had considered buying a C140 rather than building a Waiex. What tipped the scales for me was Adam was interested in building. If your daughter is not interested in the build then go for the quick build if you can afford it. If she is into it then the investment in time and her development is priceless. If you go back to page 3 of my thread you will see a similar picture of our Y tails but we are holding them. Those were the good old days when I was still the tallest in the family!

I found the Y tail kit parts to have a few issues as I documented. The fuselage was much better, with the one exception they used a few Sonex parts where dedicated Waiex parts would have been better. The wings have been pretty awesome.

Awesome photo! I was waiting on riveting on those skins because of the note about doing it after the Y is match drilled to the tail (all the aft spar to tail rivets). Did they change that for the Waiex-B?
Taildragger Waiex in progress, tail done, wings done, about to mate wings to fuse,
then cowl, canopy, paint (photos): flush rivets, turbo aerovee, acro ailerons
(I built my RV7A and happily flew it for about 500 hrs)

Thanks guys for the comments and encouragement.

Bryan, So far my daughter is still interested although she does have the typical 11 year old attention span. After a few minutes with dad she's off on her bike, or playing basketball, or the neighbor's cat, or Gilligan's Island, or... ;-)

Kevin, I think the Waiex B tail is the same as the "A" model. Mine is not yet riveted in those places as per the plans. It's hard to see in the photo as I had to reduce the resolution to post it.
