Delran blocks for wing rigging

Postby pfhoeycfi » Thu Jul 02, 2020 6:48 pm

I'm going to rig the wings and not quite sure the purpose and placement of the delran blocks between the spar and lower longeron. Is it just to support the wings during fitting? And...should I expect to do any wing skin trimming or fuselage skin trimming while fitting wings?

Don't recall anything about delran (Delrin?) blocks but assume they are temporary to protect the spar caps, support the inner end of the wing and make it easier to slide them in. I think I might have used something similar. It is really easy to scratch the spar in a critical spot. I think I had the to do a little filing of the hole in the fuselage but you shouldn't have to trim the wing skins.

The delrin blocks sit on top of the lower longerons and make it easier to slide the spars into the fuselage. They will probably be slightly too tall initially. I did a few test fits of the wings when I rigged them and filed the delrin down until the wings were in the right place while sitting on the blocks. Now I can slide the wings in and all the holes pretty much line up automatically since those blocks are just the right height.

I also had to do just a little filing of the fuselage side skin for the spars but it was really minimal.
