sonex B elevator travel

the plans call for 20 up I get 18, measured from the top surface, thats after trimming, adjusting etc. Is anyone using 18 up, or anything less than the specified 20 without issues?
The torque tube weldment hits the vertical and I've already taken down any excess matl above the weld. My horz stab is 3 - 5/16" fwd of the vert channel placement as specified in the plans.
