Had the same problem with my plane. What I did was drill the rivets out on the outside vertical and install nutserts and screws. I can get the battery out on the side.

I've read the battery box posts, but can't find reference to this: I built the box to the plans but found the bottom of the box came out 1/2" too short; also, it appears on initial fitting that the longer sides make it impossible to fit the box on the designated firewall position and have it clear the engine mount.

Should the whole thing be built to conform to the shorter bottom panel; I found no plan amendment, so appreciate any feedback.

Hey Bud: I ended up just taking the demolitions off the battery and adding 1/8" . The first battery box I built did not work. If you want to call me I can walk you through what I did.
