Exhaust Trimming

Postby WesRagle » Fri Aug 09, 2019 6:26 pm

Hi Guys,

How much exhaust pipe should I leave hanging below the firewall? Don't want too much, but don't want hot foot either :-)

Thanks,

Wes

I have very little in my Sonex. Lower photo:

I believe the theory is to have the exhaust in the negative pressure area of the cowl outlet, without being draggy in the slipstream.

No hot foot. Unless you cut off the exhaust above the bottom of the fuselage I don't think heat is an issue. Exhaust is being directed downward.

Thanks Mike,

Makes sense. I'll just leave about an inch hanging out.
