2017 Great Lakes Sonex Fly In

The 5th Annual Great Lakes Sonex Fly In is just around the corner – Saturday June 24th @ Clow International Airport 1C5, 130 South Clow International Parkway, Bolingbrook Illinois 60440

Sponsored by the Illinois Aviation Museum

Hosted by EAA Chapter 461

First presentation starts @ 9:00 AM

Our goal at the Great Lakes Sonex Fly In is to offer all those interested, in building and/or flying a Sonex, Waiex, Xenos, Onex or SubSonex the opportunity to learn more about these planes, but also offer a setting for everyone to share with others their interests and experiences.

We have another great lineup of presentations this year. This is a free event open to all aviation enthusiasts. The first presentation starting at 9:00 AM. We will break for lunch – separate checks please and then finish up back at the museum.

Bryan Cotton – presentation/discussion on his progress with his Waiex 191 build.

Russ Pavlock – currently building Sonex 1351 will discuss the B modification kit that he is currently in the process of using to modify his Sonex.

Jim Gould – member of the Illinois Aviation Museum will be discussing painting airplanes.

If you are planning on attending please email greatlakessonex@gmail.com so that we can make sure we are setup for the right number of people.

This is not a sponsored Sonex event. All information shared is to be considered opinion and treated as such. Each individual attending and or participating in this event is responsible for their own interpretation and use of the information shared at this event.

A simple call to Chicago approach ahead of time works. They have this type of request all the time.

Yes Bryan, you better. I'm driving down from Grand Rapids just to see you...and well the Paint Guy too! Hopefully a couple of Sonex Guys will fly in so I can see some completed birds as well.

I have started. No worries. Man I have a lot of pics and videos. Al, how long was my slot again? Was it 4 or 5 hours?

Bob Meyers did a great job presenting how he built his Sonex a few years ago. I don't want to make my presentation the same. I plan to focus a bit on building with kids. And, I have one kid not interested, but I still have him involved at the hangar, so be prepared for a little hovercraft and human hamster wheel slipped in here and there.

I'm driving up from Dayton, the Birthplace of Aviation and the National Museum of the USAF. My Onex 202 Empennage is finished and about halfway thru building the Fuselage. If any of you have heard of the HomeBuilt Help DVDs, I've been using the Onex set and it is very helpful. Between the Plans, the DVD's and the very infrequent email to Sonex, this is progressing quite well.

Yesterday, I went to a Rusty Pilot Seminar run by AOPA. Good info and my flight review is on my schedule next.

See you all Saturday.

Cheers

Weather permitting, I will be bringing Sonex 1517 over. Hopefully others bring their Sonex's also.

When I was building, seeing others completed, flying projects was a HUGE motivation for me.

See you all Saturday!

I am up to 40 slides. Make sure you get there early for plenty of coffee and donuts. Once they put the lights down it will be hard to stay awake, though the chairs will help.
